ABC’s LOGIC peer group awards nine scholarships

LOGIC (Ladies Operating for Growth in Construction), a peer group within ABC of Greater Baltimore, recently held their Scholarship Awards Ceremony at ABC’s Construction Education Academy. Nine extraordinary young women were awarded scholarships to help them pursue a construction-related-field-of-study in their post-high school education.

Mara Sierocinski, Chairwoman of LOGIC and Vice President of Sandy Spring Bank, applauded the recipients by saying, “As you continue your journey in the construction industry, know that you have a community behind you cheering you on and ready to support your growth.”

And in fact, many family and friends and construction professionals were there in the audience to cheer on all these young women.

Here is a brief introduction to the nine scholars who were celebrated:

Atara Berzon is studying Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Ryan Cohn will study Electrical Engineering at Howard University.

Ashley Ferguson will be studying architecture at Morgan State University.

Paris Griffin is pursuing a career in Civil Engineering as she studies at University of Maryland, College Park.

Samara Hanover is majoring in architecture at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Britney Philogene is studying Construction Management at Morgan State University.

Sabeera Rehman is attending UMBC and majoring in Geography and Environmental Science.

Marissa Ricketts will study Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech.

Maggie Tyson is majoring in Architecture at California State Polytechnic Pomona Campus.

Lilleana Watson is a Graduate Scholarship Recipient and is in her last year in her master’s program in Architecture in Environmental Design at Morgan State University.

As the ceremony opened, ABC’s Mandi Pusateri stated this celebration was named in honor of Martha Elliott, a passionate member of LOGIC who passed away last year. Mandi explained, “Martha was a true pioneer for women in construction. She was one of the driving forces behind this scholarship, and a shining example of women empowering women.”
