Toemore Knight, a graduate of Project JumpStart who has become the foremost spokesman for the apprenticeship training program, addressed the 17th Annual Maine Craft Championships organized by ABC’s Maine Chapter and the Down East Construction Foundation.
Knight has become a sought-after speaker since he introduced keynote speaker Mike Rowe at ABC Baltimore’s 2016 Gala and a video recounting the turnaround in his life has been seen at a number of industry events. Knight, who once struggled with drugs and was homeless, is now a gainfully employed electrician. He credits the remarkable change in his life to his Project JumpStart training.
The Maine Chapter requested his appearance at the Craft Championships, where he spoke to a crowd that included some 1,500 high school students. The next day, Knight addressed a luncheon of 100 elected officials, telling them about the importance of training and the satisfaction of a career in construction. Both audiences gave him a standing ovation and the Maine Chapter asked him to return for next year’s crafts competition.
Last year, Toemore Knight spoke at the Build Baltimore Gala about his experiences that led him to Project JumpStart. To register for this year’s Gala, visit here.
