Apprenticeship program continues to grow at ABC Baltimore

At ABC’s Annual Meeting on Nov. 16th 2017, DLLR (Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation) Secretary Kelly Schulz presented ABC Baltimore with a proclamation from Governor Hogan declaring November 13-17th National Apprenticeship Week in the state of Maryland. This week was established in 2015 to raise awareness of the apprenticeship programs in the region and their contributions to our country’s workforce.

Since the proclamation in 2015, the number of registered apprenticeship opportunities in the state continues to grow and expand into several industry sectors.

ABC Baltimore’s apprenticeship program has seen growth with 2017’s class having a record-breaking 518 students enrolled in the various trades.  To remain the top construction apprenticeship program in the state, ABC Baltimore has restructured its electrical curriculum and opened a new hands-on lab to provide students with more applied learning time. These changes will expand to the other trades – carpentry, HVAC/R, plumbing, sprinklerfitting, and sheetmetal – in 2018 with the opening of ABC Baltimore’s comprehensive training facility in Baltimore City.

The chapter will also be sending 5 competitors from the trades to compete in the National Craft Championship in Long Beach, CA in March.
