What made you want to join the construction industry?
Honestly, it was a career change that introduced me to construction. At first, I was hesitant to take on a role in an industry that I knew very little about. I’m in a position to challenge myself and learn something new every day. I actually created a construction terminology “cheat-sheet” to help keep track of my expanding vocabulary. I’m grateful and fortunate to work for a company that supports and encourages my personal and professional growth.
What does being a woman in construction mean to you?
It’s the opportunity to be a part of a new wave of female professionals. I’m now in the company of a growing segment of innovators that are tackling gender norms and stereotypes head-on. That’s truly an exciting opportunity!
How can you help educate young women that may be considering entering the industry or that don’t know about opportunities in the industry?
Always be present and available to chat. Being an active, visible member of the construction community is half of the battle. I’m always open to a cup of coffee and conversation to share insights and learn about others. I truly enjoy utilizing my network to make connections and build relationships. We’re all in this together, right?
