The Women in ABC (WABC) committee works each year to raise funds for the ‘Women in ABC Design/Build Challenge Scholarship.’ The 2017 scholarship winner is Ashley Cook from Landsdowne High School. Ashley was awarded $3000, which was partially funded on behalf of Maureen Bands with Lewis Contractors, for her design and construction of a shed made of recycled doors- representing the doors opening to women in the construction industry. The scholarship will go toward her apprenticeship in carpentry with the goal to eventually become a master carpenter.
WABC also awarded a scholarship of $1000 to the runner-up, Mindra Okonski. Mindra is attending Virginia Tech in the fall and is majoring in Architecture. Congratulations to both women, you will do great things in the industry!
